Golden Years Travelers
Updated: May 4, 2022
Do you have or are you a golden years traveler? Worried about how you will ever fly, drive, ride to your next destination? We hope this next story helps you with some ideas to make travel easier.
Our golden years travelers are so much fun to travel with especially seeing travel through their eyes. For some of us who travel often we just do. Meaning we know how to book travel, make travel arrangements, pack, and plan itineraries. For our golden years travelers they may not travel often so booking travel online may be overwhelming. We learned this over the last 10 years. For us, it is easier to book travel and make all the arrangements for them. They are thankful and appreciate your help.
We found it easier as well to have one of us travel with our golden years travelers. It gives you an opportunity to have one-on-one time with them. Traveling with them does present its own unique challenges. You may become the pack mule. Mothers purse is too heavy, in the backpack it goes, carry on too heavy, over your shoulder it goes, walking assistance equipment; now you have multiples you are carrying, and lets not forget wheelchair assistance if they are too busy they offer to let you push your golden traveler by yourself. Lets envision this... 2 travelers, 2 purses, 2 carry on pieces, 2 jackets, 2 canes you are collapsing and so on. Do you have a vision of 1 person trying to manage it all? Good thing you decided to travel with them!
Here are a few suggestions for services to help the golden years traveler: Some airlines offer concierge service for a fee. A quick google search and there is a world of concierge service providers not just airlines.
An alternative is to make sure that when booking airline travel you document any special services required. All the airlines we have flown with let you document special needs. This has been wonderful for gate-to-gate assistance.
We do want to thank all of those airline passengers that are so kind in offering to place things in the overhead bins for the golden years travelers. Your acts of kindness are so greatly appreciated.
